Eric Conklin, a senior and starter on Chaparral’s Varsity Basketball team, helps lead the team in a positive direction at the beginning of the new season. Conklin, a 6 foot 7 inch forward, started the season off right as the lead scorer with 13 points in a rival game against Desert Mountain. The game tested Conklin’s leadership and strength as both a member of a team and as a talented player. He proved that this year will be successful and is excited for what the season will bring.
For Conklin, this is not just the start of a new season; it is the beginning of the end as he steps onto the Chaparral court for his last year. His view on the team and the season is positive and he believes that his final year will be a memorable one.
“This year everyone on the team is really coming together and getting really close. It’s like one big family,” Conklin stated.
Hoping for a successful season and excelling in his academics, Eric has a bright future and plans to go on and play basketball in college. Even though it is his last season, Conklin is taking everything a step at a time and is cherishing every game he gets to play wearing his Chaparral jersey.
“I’m not really worried too much about recruiting right now. I’m just trying to focus on the season and make the most out of it since it’s my last, and after that I will go on some visits and sign,” he said.
Lead by Conklin, the team heads into another exciting year and will bring many opportunities for him to be scouted by colleges. With his opportunism, determination, and dedication, he plans to have a rewarding season and end his high school basketball experience the right way. Things seem positive for the determined senior, and it looks like his team will be talented, his camaraderie with the players will be strong, and wherever he decides to play in college he will find success.
